Meet Tommie

35 Years in Education.
Eight Years in Small Business.
A Lifetime of Service.

Tommie Johnson has dedicated her career serving students, educators and families. Across 35 years in public education, her work took her from the classroom to campus-level leadership and roles supporting employees and schools across the District.

She served as principal of Willis Lane Elementary and later opened Bette Perot Elementary School as their principal. Her work later expanded to roles supporting employees, campuses and District operations, giving her a broader understanding of the people, systems and resources required to support strong schools. She retired from Keller ISD in 2019 as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

Retirement began a new chapter. For the past eight years, Tommie helped her husband grow their family business, gaining firsthand experience with budgeting, customer service, daily operations, accountability and the responsibility of making thoughtful decisions with limited resources.

Together, these experiences have shaped how Tommie approaches leadership. She understands public education from multiple perspectives and knows that strong organizations depend on listening, collaboration, responsible stewardship and a clear focus on the people they serve.

Why I'm Running

Keeping students at the center of every decision.

Keller ISD is facing important decisions about its future. Tommie believes the District needs experienced, collaborative leadership that listens carefully, communicates clearly, and keeps the focus where it belongs: on students, teachers, and strong public schools.

Her goal is not to add more division. It is to help restore trust, bring people together, and move Keller ISD forward with transparency, truth, and teamwork.

“I have dedicated my career to advocating for students, teachers and public education. I’m ready to put that experience back to work for Keller ISD.”

TOMMIE'S PRIORITIES

Experienced Leadership. A Clear Direction for Keller ISD.

Tommie Johnson believes Keller ISD can move forward with a clear academic focus, strong educators, responsible leadership and a renewed sense of shared purpose. Her priorities are grounded in 35 years in public education and eight years as a small-business owner.

01

Academic Excellence for Every Student

Every child deserves an exceptional education, a safe and positive school environment and a clear pathway to reach their full potential.

A district needs a transparent and measurable academic roadmap. District goals must translate into meaningful classroom progress, with clear checkpoints and accountability.

Academic excellence includes rigorous learning, student well-being and access to meaningful opportunities. Board-level decisions should remain connected to how students learn, grow and prepare for what comes next.

Key Points

  • A transparent and measurable academic roadmap
  • Clear goals, checkpoints and accountability
  • Safe and positive learning environments
  • Strong academic, career and extracurricular pathways
02

Transparency and Responsible Stewardship

Taxpayers and families deserve plain-language information, responsible budgeting and honest communication about the realities facing the District.

Financial decisions should be explained clearly, including the tradeoffs involved and the potential effect on classrooms. Community input should happen early enough to make a meaningful difference.

Resources should be aligned behind Keller ISD’s most important academic priorities. Transparency, truth and teamwork should guide the decision-making process from the beginning, not be offered as an explanation after decisions have already been made.

Key Points

  • Plain-language communication
  • Responsible and transparent budgeting
  • Clear explanations of tradeoffs and classroom impact
  • Meaningful community input before major decisions
03

Destination District

Keller ISD should be a place where families choose to put down roots, stay through graduation and feel confident that every student can access an excellent pathway.

A destination District offers strong academic programs, specialized opportunities and pathways that prepare students for what comes next. Keller ISD should identify where it can lead and align its resources behind clear priorities.

That includes attracting and retaining excellent educators while sustaining strong CTE, fine arts, athletics and college partnerships. When families and employees have confidence in the opportunities, culture and direction of the District, Keller ISD becomes a place where people want to learn, work and stay.

Key Points

  • Strong academic programs and student pathways
  • Resources aligned behind clearly defined priorities
  • Recruitment and retention of excellent educators and staff
  • Continued strength in CTE, fine arts, athletics and college partnerships
04

Strong Educators, Strong Schools

Students thrive when Keller ISD recruits, supports and retains capable teachers, administrators and support staff who share a clear commitment to student success.

Strong schools depend on educators and staff who have clear expectations, effective support and the tools and resources needed to do their best work. Tommie will advocate for competitive compensation, practical support and safe, positive working conditions that help Keller ISD attract and retain talented people.

A strong professional culture is built through accountability, communication, collaboration and a shared focus on students. When Board decisions impact classroom operations or employee working conditions, the practical experience of those doing the work should be considered alongside student outcomes, family and community input and the broader needs of the District.

Key Points

  • Competitive compensation and practical support
  • Tools and resources that help employees do their best work
  • Clear expectations and accountability
  • Safe, positive working and learning environments
  • Board decisions grounded in educator experience input, student outcomes, family input and responsible governance
05

One KISD: Unity, Trust and Shared Pride

Keller ISD is strongest when families, educators, campuses and communities work together toward a common purpose.

Every campus and community should feel heard, valued and fairly considered. Meaningful input should be invited before major decisions are finalized.

Tommie will focus on the needs and success of the District as a whole. She believes respectful listening, thoughtful collaboration and recognition of shared accomplishments can rebuild trust and strengthen pride across Keller ISD.

Key Points

  • Decisions guided by the needs of the District as a whole
  • Fair consideration for every campus and community
  • Meaningful input before major decisions are finalized
  • Shared success, trust and pride across Keller ISD
